SAP print in Russian...

Postby Dr Sidewalk » Tue Jun 30, 2009 9:43 am

We have spool files created from Sapscript/Smartforms which view fine via SP01, showing all the Russian text. However, when printing the Russian characters appear as hashes (###). It sounds like there is some printer setup required within SAP, maybe a language pack of some typee. Could someone confirm this. I can then forward to our remote Basis team to resolve.

Was about to convert the spool to a PDF and then print, but sadly I was missing the Russian language pack for Adobe, which I probably need to download.

With regards

Apparently there is a note (322998) for converting Cyrillic characters to PDF. In short it needs soft fonts to uploaded to SAP and then the program which creates the PDF from spool will use these fonts, and enbed them into the pdf, so that it works. Not only is this a crazy idea, but it also costs a fair bit for these fonts.

However, fear not, there is an alternative to this. Use the Open source PDF viewer called Samatra. This will display Cyrillic characters in PDF document without any extra fonts being used. It's also about 10 times smaller as a program, and also 10 times faster when loading. Result.
