image with white background going gray

Hi

While embedding graphics in a form I found that the white background is replaced with light gray. I tried also with transparent background, but no avail. Funnily enough for instance pink background would be displayed and printed unaltered. I tried uploading both in TIFF, JPEG and BMP. Apparently distortion happens during uploading of a picture. Did anyone have similar problem?

Thanks,
Chris

reducing color depth to 8 bpp = 256 solves the issue

Now, even 4 years later, the issue persists. Reducing color depth to 256 colors improved it, but the background still is not perfectly white. In the printout there are still small visible dots indicating a slight shading of the background.
