printer displays # instead of £

any1 seen an event where the printer displays a # instead of the £ sign,

its a line printer we're using, tried substituting a # but still get #

anybody any ideas???

the reason could be a wrong character set. Check which character set your printer is using. Use transaction code SPAD, leave the name blank in output devices to get the list of printers -> double click on the devices type of the printer you're looking for. Check which character set is used. I know that character set 1116 is able to print the sterling sign (it's no. 163).

thanx nicola, changed to 1116 but it still prints mumbo jumbo, in fact slightly worse,

The printer is a line printer Genicom, how does one know what character set to use??

I've just checked OSS (note 154494) - try and download the correct device type for your printer.
