Update FM with No Restart

Postby chris55 » Tue Feb 03, 2015 7:53 am

Hi all,

anyone able to explain the REAL difference between an update function module set as Start immed. and one set as Immediate Start, No Restart

SAP offers the explanation:

Update with immediate start

Set this option for high priority ("V1") functions that run in a shared (SAP LUW). These functions can be restarted by the update task in case of errors.

Update w. imm. start, no restart

Set this option for high priority ("V1") functions that run in a shared (SAP LUW). These functions may not be restarted by the update task.

But I don't see any difference. Using the 'no restart' option you can still repeat - or try to repeat - failed updates. And they are successful. Maybe I'm missing something about "may not be restarted by the update task" or something. Maybe that's different from repeating the update in SM13. Anyone know?

Thanks,
Chris.
