Oracle, MaxDB and ODBC

Hi Guys,

has anyone a working example of an ODBC connection string into a SAP MaxDB and Oracle?

This should ideally work to pull SAP tables into an Access/MSSQL database.

Thanks a bunch
Martin

you want an MSSQL database to connect through ODBC to MaxDB and Oracle.

Right?

Yes and I would assume the connection string would work like wise with Access.
We consolidate two SAP systems into one and I want to filter out unused configuration based on transactional data from the past two years.

My hope is to get only active configuration.

My goal is to download transactional tables into MSSQL and not having to create reports in SAP and having a fairly heavy load on the PRD system.

The client would like to use Access and download to do some reporting before they eventually go BI.

I would assume that there might also be an authorization requirement on the SAP side, thus a solution should be comprehensive and not sliced bread :)

first things first.

if you acquired your Oracle license through SAP, you are not allowed to connect to Oracle with anything else than SAP products. This being said, it is probably easy to connect through ODBC.
As for MAxDB. This is proprietary to SAP, so, go see at maxdb.sap.com to see if an ODBC driver exists.
I am unsure that using MsAccess to access SAP data is a wise choice. SAP has many tools for reporting such as BW, Business objects tools, ABAP, etc...

Der Snowy,

that was the classic Indian answer to a problem.
i.e. No answer.

I didn't ask about license or authority or anything the like.
I clearly asked for guidance in connection strings.

Ok,

I hope you get more helpful answers from other Indians.

good luck.

Have you tried RFCs? you Can use them to update, delete, read any table in SAP DB (Oracle, MaxDB, DB2 .....)
