Installation Time - SAP 6.0 SR3

Postby arulpugazh » Mon Jan 20, 2014 11:37 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to install SAP 6.0 ERP Central System (IDES) in my PC.

Host OS: Windows 8.1 x64 with 6GB RAM
Guest : Windows 2003 Server x64 with 2GB RAM
I'm installing it in an external drive which has 350GB free space

Everything goes well and now i'm in "Create/Check Tablespaces" phase. The only thing i'm concerned is the time it takes, which may be directly attributed to the use of external hdd. It has been 3 days now: The creation of the tablespace "PSAPSR3" took more than 2 days and now the program is creating the tablespace "PSAPSR3701" and adding datafile 25. And the "Import ABAP" phase is yet to come! Any information which will help me to estimate the time remaining would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Arul

Hi Arul,

I remember from having installed a few SAP systems a few years ago,
that installing the main database on an external drive or a network
drive was not recommeded, and likely not supported.

You will likely have large performance issues also after you install.

Thanks QZ.

The installation failed for me as the external hard drive lost connection with PC somehow. I'll try installing again , in a reliable storage.

Hi Arul,

Check the installation manual and/or notes carefully to ensure that
however you choose to install is supported.

Otherwise, you may get through the installation process and have issues
later on.

A few years ago, I installed some ECC IDES systems on Windows/Oracle,
and the main installation process took about 5 or 6 hours, I think.
