SAP MMC doesn't connect in sap ecc 6.0 EHP 4

Postby bilal5zain » Tue Jan 14, 2014 1:34 pm

Hi,
I am very new to SAP and in the learning process. I need help in correcting the following error. My IDES system i.e. SAP ECC 6.0 doesn’t connect. The MMC was working fine, work processes connected fine, but suddenly it stops working. Although it connects for a minutes or so and then stops. I checked online for the solution, people who had same exact problem suggested to clear log area and it will start working fine. But I don’t know how to clear database log. It is Sap ECC 6.0 EHP4 with oracle. Please help me sort out this problem. The error message is as follow

I am assuming here that your Google search was correct and successful, and your problem really is Oracle database log:

There is a directory called oraarch, and there isn't any more free space in it.
Delete some old files from there, or move them elsewhere.

Then I think your next task should be learning a bit about SAP backups, and this will also include learning how to avoid problems like this.

regards

Thanks for your reply, Should I manually delete the files in oraarch, won't it affect operation of SAP IDES?
And yes I am looking forward to learn trouble shooting as well, Actually I am planning to do FICO certification first. Thanks,Look forward to your reply,

Manually deleting old files in the oraarch directory will not affect operation of SAP. It will however affect recoverability of the system in case of hardware problems or the like.
On the other hand, as it is an IDES test system, and as you apparently haven't got any idea of backup/restore anyway, it will make no difference whether or not the files will be there.

good luck!

Thank you very much for your reply. I moved the files in oraarch and empties it but still having the same problem. It was connecting alright before, I didn't make any changes to it at all just practising on FI module, now suddenly it is behaving like this. connects for 1 minutes then the work process stops. please help me to resolve this problem, the error log is as under,

Re: SAP MMC doesn't connect in sap ecc 6.0 EHP 4

Postby hoinz » Wed Jan 15, 2014 10:20 am

So I gather that the root cause was not a full oraarch directory ...

Now look at the trace file dev_w0, and please before posting it here, google for the error messages you will find!

I have to do some real work of my own, you know ....

What OS?
Have a look at your Oracle log ,this is named alert_<SID>.ora and is under your $ORACLE_HOME ,if on Unix, or %ORACLE_HOME% if on Win. After the database startup messages you should have no significant ORA- codes, if any, post them.
Also your paging space could be low.

Thanks for your reply. I installed SAP ECC 6.0 EHP4 with Oracle DB on windows server 2008 ENT. It has been working fine for few months, but now it stopped connecting. Message work process and the other process connects fine and become green. It is the dispatcher work process which connects for one minute then stops. People have been suggesting different thing like
1. clear log area , ( I moved files from Oraarc but no success)
2. checked environment Varaiables,
3. Swap memory
4. oracle and SAP services in SERVICES area (working fine)

The only thing I couldn't do is R3trans -D, which I don't know how to execute, I tried to login to SQLPLUS as sysdba but it doesn't accept password. I tried passwords "manager" "password" and the one I used during installation

Please help me, I will be very thankfull for your help. cheersssss

K, might be the problem is with your database.
For now , forget about R3trans -x and let's try to get the database status. Find that alert<SID>.log and review the last entries, it should have a line "Database opened".
Also try logging on to the database from command line.
1) set oracle_sid=<SID> . If you don't know the sid, lookup OracleServiceNNN in services, where NNN shall correspond to the SID
2) sqlplus system/manager . This is the default password for system. IF this fails, try sqlplus sys as sysdba, and its default password is change_on_install .
3) if you login, run this query:
SQL > select status from v$instance;
It should be OPEN. If not, issue a startup and post any errors.

Claudio
