tmsadm password and charm

Postby Zavaros » Mon Sep 16, 2013 9:40 am

Hello,

Customer asked us to change tmsadm password according OSS Notes 761637 and 1414256.

I have no problem with the initial setup. It is a bit tricky but can be done.
I have doubts about operation. Can it be safely operated?

What happens when a new system is added to the transport domain? Will it lock all tmsadm users?
What happens when we link 2 transport domains?

Do you have experience with it?

Regards,

Zav

hello,

tmsadm user is used in the rfc's used for transporting between systems. while you change the password (and update the rfcs) you will be "unable" to transport.. well, it will ask you for your username and password in the target system and that should be it.

no, when you add a new system it will not lock the tmsadm user. just when it asks you for the password, you should put the one you have in store.
nothing, there is no problem in linking domains.

with all this operation there might be a slight downtime in transports but it can be easily circumvented.

Hello,

thank you for the comments.
To be honest you confirmed my fears.

There are several independent projects who can (have to) install SAP systems.
- if they know the new tmsadm password then the well-known password is replaced with public one :?
- if they do not know the password then ... well ... the tmsadm could be locked already when we are informed about new system in transport domain.

you can always do a trick... you can always modify the tmsadm password in all systems and modify it in all the transport rfcs... if it is not modifiable, you can go to sm59->double-click on the RFC-> write "togl" without "" in the transaction box, and it will allow you to modify it... then just enter the new tmsadm user password.
