CRM2007 producing 45GB+ offline redologs per day - Is this n

Good day:

We go live today and we have an issue that we do not know if it is normal in the CRM world:

CRM2007 is producing about 45GB of offline redologs for a database that is only 200GB in size. We do process many transactions per day, so we do in ERP, but ERP is far below that mark of 45GB+ offline redolgos per day.

Is it normal for a CRM system to produce that amount of offline redologs.

Somebody may point us to review certain areas, and we appreciate that. However, maybe it is just the way it is and we have to accommodate to that scenario.

Some questions we would like to hear from about your production system are (if possible):

1. Your CRM DB size.
2. What is the size of your CRM offline redolog filesystem (ours is 35GB)
3. What is the size of a CRM offline redolog (ours is 150MB)
4. In average, how many CRM offline redolog backups you launch per day (we run 4)
5. more or less, how many CRM offline redologs are generated in a normal operations day? (we generate 300+)

Hi,

I can't say if this is normal but you have reasons to be worried.

you will need to analyze when the system is generating more redologs and try to couple that with jobs being run on your system. You may find that 1 process is mainly responsible for this behavior.

What is the position of your Oracle patches (the bug fixes)? There are SAP Notes which points to setup of events, fix controls and application of bug-fixes for abnormal redo generation.

When you posted this thread you were about to go live, so you can't know how the system is going to behave until some time has elapsed - initial 2-3 days, mid-glimpse 1 week, definitive 2-5 months or even 1 year, depending what processes you run at years-end or the close of your fiscal year. :shock:
I've heard of no bugs that send the log buffer into endless write-to-disk loops, it's probable that activity is normal for your system.
One point of reference could be the # of commits in your database, query sys.v_$sysstat thru sqlplus where name='user commits' and divide that by uptime days. We have something like 2 million per week and like you, my shop pukes 40GB daily of offlines. :wink:

Hi,

Check for a pattern as to when the archive logs are being generated. Then, check
SM37 for background jobs running at the same, SM35 for BDC jobs, monitor with
SM50, etc..

For example, you may have a background job running for about 15 minutes
at the top of every hour.

Also, check the SQL Cursor Cache in ST04, as well as which tables are being
updated, etc..

Finally, there are Oracle tools to trace the activity in the database when the
logs are being generated. Maybe Logminer can help.
