Partially missing data

Post by AndyW » Mon Feb 15, 2010 8:10 am

Hi All

Not sure if this is a BASIS problem or Functional...

Our users called up with a problem where they were getting a standard 'material does not exist' type error when trying to add it to a sales order. After some investigation we discovered that the material existed earlier that day as it appeared on other sales orders. Further digging around idenitifed a total of 6 materials had 'lost' records from tables MARA, MAKT, MARD and MBEW but corresponding records still existed in MARM, MLAN, MARC and MVKE. I don't believe it is possible (using SAP transactions etc) to delete MM data let alone parts of an MM record so something nasty has happened but we don't know what or how to identify it. The change docs provide no relevant information and neither does SM21.

In an interesting twist a day or two later we were informed that two customer records appeared to be missing. On investigation one was used the same day as the material data disappered and one the day before. Again, data was missing from KNA1 but still existed in KNB1. Although one of the customers could be linked to 3 of the problem materials there was no identifiable link between the other custome and/or the other materials.

The records could not be re-created using the normal 'create' transactions so the data was copied via tranpsort request from our QAS system and updated accordingly in PRD.

Has anybody experienced such nonsense before and any idea on how to identify the cause so we can stop it happening again.

Thanks in advance

Andy

you will need to investigate transaction usage with ST03N and try to find who deleted such data.

Have you done some archiving lately?

Thanks Snowy

That will be really useful if it ever happens again. The problem is this happened on 5th Feb and the daily logs for then don't appear to exist (only as far back as the 10th) - unless you know of a way of drilling down into the weekly aggregates? I just can't see how someone could have deleted this data since to my knowledge there is no way of doing this via SAP transactions.

No, we haven't done any archiving recently.

Cheers
Andy

Also check if there is someone untrustworthy who has access to database tools, like sqlplus in case of Oracle.
