HW migration

Post by jrcygcm » Wed Nov 11, 2009 3:26 pm

Hi, I just want to validate if the way what we did a HW migrtaion is
rigth or not.

we have an ECC 6.0 non-unicode system on win server 2003 (32 bits) and
MSSQL server 2005. We want to move it to an other server with win
server 2008 (x64) and MSSQL sever 2008.

The first step we did was install MSSQL server 2008 on the server, then
we ran the master installation for NW 70 SR3, but it only allows to
install unicode systems, anyway we continued with the new intallation,
at the end we had an ECC 6.0 unicode system on win 2008 (x64) and MSSQl

Then we restored de DB, which came from non-unicode system, then we
changed the SID, schema and validate users. Then we created manually the
path: C:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\exe\nuc\NTAMD64 instead of
C:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64 then uncompressed the non-unicode
kernel into the folder, finally we took the profile parameters from the
source system and the instance started perfectly without any problem,
I already validated TMS, RFC's and some others transactions and
everything is working very well.

Can I keep doing it or do I have to carry out others activities to migrate
our systems to an others servers???

thanks a lot in advance for your help and support.

I used about the same strategy but with Oracle.

I installed Unicode and adapter paths and kernel to non-unicode and it has been working this way for over 2 years.

Will this method work for Non-Unicode system to Unicode system? Any one has similar experience with Unicode conversion?

Benhp, this will work also, but only if you do not migrate the database.
