BW : Error 8 when starting the data extraction program

Hi All,

I've trying to find something on this for days now.

In my BW system (DBW) RSA1 -> Source System check works perfectly fine.
But when in the InfoSources we schedule a 'load' it errors out with the following error:

Error message from the source system

Diagnosis
An error occurred in the source system.

System response
Caller 09 contains an error message.

Further analysis:
The error occurred in Service API .
Refer to the error message.

Diagnosis

Error 8 occurred when starting the data extraction program.

System response

The data extraction is terminated.

Procedure

Check for relevant OSS Notes, or create a problem message of your own.

Along with this error message I notice the following in SM21/ST22:
User RFCUSER. Run-time error "MESSAGE_TYPE_X" occurred

In the SRM source system (DSR), SM21 says:
BP_JOB_MODIFY: Job cannot be modified. Reason:
The attempt to modify a job of background processing (by means of
function module BP_JOB_MODIFY) failed. The reason for this is
described in more detail in a subsequent system log entry.

Job BIREQU_D92W59Q16AFO9L7CXJ6ZCHFHX contains invalid data
The attempt to create a new job ( function module BP_JOB_CREATE )
or to modify it ( function module BP_JOB_MODIFY ) failed because job
data is invalid. It is described in more detail which data is invalid
in a previous system log entry. Please correct this data.

No background processing active on TargetServr DBWCLNT100
Within the check of job data of background processing, it was
found that on the specified target host for a job, no background
processing is active and therefore, the job there cannot be
executed. Either you activate background processing on the target
host or select another target host.

Also in this Source System (DSR), SM37 there are BIREQU* jobs scheduled each time we run the load from the BW system. But these jobs are in Scheduled status and never run until released manually.

I have checked the RFC connections they are working fine. The users (RFCUSER, REGUSER, ALEREMOTE, BIWREMOTE) all are unlocked and have SAP_ALL & SAP_NEW.
WE21 partner profiles seem to be fine.
Other background jobs on DSR are running fine. Operation Modes are OK.

Versions: DSR = SRM 4.00. DBW = BW 3.5. Both on SP 16, windows 2003 and oracle 9.2.

Any inputs would be appreciated.

Background processing is active on the Target Server as well as source and the background processes are running fine ...

Long shot: Check in your source system via transaction SBIW --> general settings --> maintain control parameter, if there is perhaps a wrong (non-existent?)target system (target BTC system) assigned.

UNBELIEVABLE !!

The entries in SBIW were correct... But after comparing from our QA system.. I actually deleted the entry in SBIW ... So now both DBW and DSR SBIW --> general settings --> maintain control parameter -- IS BLANK and its working fine !

Thanks for your reply. :)

What was the contents of the table on your prod system (was there a entry for the target server)? Please note that maintaining parameters in SBIW will/can actually speed up the loads (when maintained correctlym check OSS notes).

From (old) OSS note 147104:
Check table ROIDOCPRMS (=transaction SBIW) in your OLTP system. The table was extended with BW Release 1.2B to the field BTCSYSTEM.This change also exists in newer Support Packages for the R/3 OLTP, so that this field also appears in context with BW 1.2A extractors.

If the field BTCSYSTEM exists, it must contain the names of an available application server of the OLTP system or it must be empty. If you enter the application server there, pay attention to the spelling:the name must be entered (upper/lower case) as specified via Transaction SM51 in field "Host name"! This server must be capable of starting a background process for data extraction.

If you download data via the MySelf connection, you must check the ROIDOCPRMS table in the BW system.

This solution works ! I just simply empty tgt system (a.k.a hostname) and everything normal ! this solution rocks ! rocks !
