SAPR3 not connected

Post by bijoybabu » Mon Oct 21, 2002 1:54 pm

Hai experts,

now we are facing a strage situation, whenever we start sap data base opens but not sapr3, i tried all the options i know but no way.

DATABASE : open
SAPR3 : 40B, not connected

this happend, when our ups were tripped, after that sap is not starting, when using startsap we gets the message that instance is started, only a few sap process is running on it.
the server is Sun solarisis 6. database is oracle 8. so how can we make the sap run in it, any idea?

with regards,

It may sound stupid, when you use startsap, you may get a message saying that SAP started ok, but this is not always true.

1st thing to do is to type ps -ef . Check if you see multiple instace of dw.sap running, if not, they probably dies a few secoinds after starting.

Next, check your dev_w0 file. It contains startup messages.

This trace will be helpful and will pin-point what made WP die.

Similar problem

Post by Mexican Basis » Mon Oct 21, 2002 5:40 pm

We had a similar situation about 3 weeks ago. What happened was that when we had a shutdown our system lost some environment variables and services wouldnt run. Try checking this before launching the R3 services.

Query

Post by bijoybabu » Tue Oct 22, 2002 5:26 am

Hai, Thanks for all vaulable answers,

I am not an expert in BASIS, (even though i have more than one year experiance in as administrator).
Can u say how can i check the connection to sap and database,
and what are the services required to start sap.
As we are using SUN solarisis machine, is it required to manually start the services, we tried many times by shutdown total server and restarting it.But that didn't help,

Once again thanking u for all suggestions,

Bijoy Babu

To check if SAP can connect to your database, try this:

R3trans -x

If you don't get error message, this means that SAP can connect to your DB. To start SAP, here's what to do

login as orabwp
type lsnrctl start

login as bwpadm
type startsap all

This has to be done manually.

good luck.

While trys to start the services, the message says that the
MSG_SERVER died

then for work process also same.

And after that if i check the services those services are not running.

ps -ef | grep sap | wc -l

gives the answer 6 only

can you give us the error in /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS00/dev_disp and /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS00/dev_w0 ... where <SID> is the system name

may we know the output of ps -ef | grep sap (we need to know if its co, ms, dw, or se ....)
