Time Management Configuration

Hello - we have been using SAP for approximately 14.5 years now and configured the Time Management module using personnel subareas based on whether employees are exempt or non-exempt and by the various time rules. We are now working on a project to prepare us for future implementation of Success Factors components (Succession Planning, Compensation Management, etc.) and are being instructed that it is a best practice to combine exempt and non-exempt employees into one personnel subarea and break the distinction out in the employee subgroup field. Has anyone done something similar, who would be willing to share their experiences with us? Can we combine exempt and non-exempt employees - who have different pay rules, overtime rules, absence rules, etc. - into one personnel subarea and still manage their unique time/attendance/absence information with a different field? Any guidance you can provide us would be most appreciated. Thank you!!
