AS91 incorrectly calculated post-transfer depreciation

Postby rmcgaffic » Fri Jul 11, 2014 11:06 am

AS91 incorrectly calculates legacy asset depreciation after the takeover date. In the simple example, below it doubles the depreciation for the takeover year. Does anyone have any ideas to correct this problem? Thanks, Bob

Assume the following facts

Asset purchased 01/01/2013 120,000
Useful life 10 years
Take over date 06/30/2014

The book value of this asset is 102,000 calculated as follows:
Acquisition cost 120,000
Depreciation for 12 months 2013 -12,000
Depreciation for 6 months 2014 -6,000
Net book value 102,000

The following configuration is in place:

Specify transfer date/last closed fiscal year for our company code: 06/30/2014

Specify last period posted in previous systems: Year 2014 Period 06.

Depreciation has been posted in the legacy system through 06/30/2014.

When transaction AS91 is used to create this asset, the following values are entered for depreciation area 01 Book Depreciation:

Initial screen
Asset class 2000 Machinery and equipment
Company code 1000

General tab
Capitalization date 01/01/2013

Depreciation tab
Depreciation area 01 Book depreciation
Depreciation key LINA
Useful life 10 years
Periods 0
Ordinary dep start 01/01/2013
Expired useful life 1
Expired useful period Blank

Takover values for depreciation area 01 Book depreciation
Cumulative acquisition value 120,000
Accumulated ordinary depreciation 18,000
Net book value (system calculated) 102,000

Asset 20411 was created.

Transaction AS03 Display asset displays the following planned/postingvalues:

Period 7 7,000 SHOULD BE 1,000
Period 8 1,000
Period 9 1,000
Period 10 1,000
Period 11 1,000
Period 12 1,000

What parameter do I need to set to make the period 7 depreciation 1,000 instead of 7,000.
The depreciation for the remaining periods of 2014 should be 6,000, not 12,000.

I'm going to answer my own question.

Even though SAP has all the information it needs to calculate the depreciation for the first 6 months of 2014, it is unable to do so.

Therefore on the Takeover values tab of transaction you must specify three values:

Acquisition cost
Accumulated depreciation through take over date
Depreciation expense in year of take over date

I had omitted the Depreciation expense in year of take over date and this caused a doubling of up planned depreciation for period 07, the first period after takeover.
