Cost center authorizations / derived roles in 4.0?

Hi,

basically the question is if there exists the concept for derived roles (authorizations) in the version 4.0? Derived roles meaning that you can create a top level role and then subroles where only the organizational levels differ, but the functions are the same and if change done in the top level it would be inherited downwards.

If yes, how it is used (I know how it works in 4.6c, but haven't been able to find it in 4.0) and where can I find it? If there's no concept for derived roles is there something similar in 4.0 that would help me in the situation described below:

I am having to create authorisations role for controlling use so that the particular user is always authorised to only 1-2 cost centers - there are several cost centers and several countries so this would mean tens of separate responsibilities within one role and a huge amount of maintenance in case of changes.
