Re: Issue with Native SQL.

How many times we have encountered tilda as part of Basis work? Many times during reorgs and index rebuilds, upgrades, Oracle related notes etc. SAP or ABAP or whatever has this habit of introducing tilda in data dictionary objects. Oracle does not take this kindly (tilda is a special character in O...

Re: Issue with Native SQL.

Columns with ~ (tilda) character need be enclosed in double quotes.

For example:

"mseg~matnr"

Re: stderr files

Luniz, It is not about my way or your way or the Unix way. Please do whatever it takes. I firmly believe that SAP BASIS Administrator or Unix Administrator should be nonchalant by nature. Address the root cause and be done with it. In this case, I think, your kernel patch needs a remedy. Best, BT

Re: stderr files

I'd have a worry. Why is stderr growing so big you may want to empty/delete it?

Perhaps your kernel needs upgrading.

I now release, it cannot be removed by rm.

Please use

> filename

or

cat /dev/null >/pathtofilename/filename

Re: stderr files

Yes, it is possible and okay to delete stderr files while SAP is up and running.

But please ensure, you are deleting only stderr files. On curiosity, a strange way to
delete using /dev/null. Why not use your trusted rm?

Re: kernel upgrade from 7.20-EXT to 7.21-EXT

Quick answer: surprisingly yes but only SAP ABAP component.

What many don't release is that SAP kernel is ABAP Processor and ABAP components compile with this new processor.

Maybe, but even I know someone who starts his posts with a phrase containing the word "guru" will NOT read or/nor understand any answer provided to that message.
Perhaps he's expecting telepathic / transcendental mode of communication?

Re: Secondary index without MANDT field.

It's my usual grouse on secondary indexes. While secondary indexes hasten fetch (read) queries, they have their overhead on frequently updated tables. Please remember, every DML statement (data manipulation language) like update, modify or delete will impact its indexes. A corresponding i/o activity...

Re: Transfering ABAP source code from one system to another

ABAP workbench objects are client independent. They will need to be created in DEV system first and then moved to QAS and PRD. While ABAP code can be copied and pasted, other items cannot. Please also note, copying and pasting ABAP code is not so simple. It might be refer to custom fields, tables an...

Re: SAP Transport with No Shared Drive

A friend of mine mentioned where she lives, the wind is so strong, it will blow you off. I asked her to put stones in her pocket. Now, your problem is similar. You seem to have a quarantined QAS & PRD system. You want to move transports from DEV system. Is there a system landscape document? Are you ...

Re: BRBackup with IBM 3581 Autoloader with 2 tapes

I read a story somewhere (or someone told me): There was this nightly backup which spanned over two tapes. After backup of tape1, the drive would eject tape1 and wait for tape2 to be inserted for backup. All went well for some time. The administrator got lazy and asked the security guard to insert t...

Re: Making the case for the Dark Side

Wholesome advise I found. I couldn't add or deduct anything from it. Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,...

Re: New app server no RFC

Hello,

By any chance, is the system non-Unicode and this new dialog instance is unicode?

Also, while cloning, at AIX level, the locales required by SAP must be installed.

Cheers,
