As many guys explained, BW client copy from PRD to QAS will not work. Client copy will copy only the client specific data. BW creates a lot of DD level objects which will not be copied in a client copy. This is infact true even for R/3. So, you can not just do a client copy and expect the 2 systems ...

You can use the same instance number on different hosts for the same system (SID). For example, PRD CI with instance # 00 in host 1, PRD App server 1 with instance ID # 00 on host 2 and so on. I have done similar set ups many many times.. My prefered way of adding a app server, is also by copying di...

Some times the messages from sapinst could be misleading. Try
selecting the folder one level below, where the actual label.asc is located.

Check and see if you have any values set for icm/server_port_0 .
This is the http port used by ICMAN. if you are using any such
application, you may want to include that port too.

Look at the log files in /usr/sap/<SID>/D*/work directory.
Looks for the files dev_w*. These files should have more information
about the termination. Check and see if you have enough swap space.

do a R3trans -dw from a command prompt. This will create a trans.log
file which should have more information about the problem. I hope
you used different SIDs / user IDs for you multiple installations.

If you forgot the sap* password and if there is no other user Id to get in,
you can delete the entry for user sap*/client from usr02 and then login
with sap* and password pass.

SE03 should work.
Make sure you selected the "Modifiable" check box in "Status",
so that the system will search through un-released req.s too.

1. Copy sapdba and br* to a directory in PATH variable. 2. Copy init<SID>.dba and init<SID>.sap to your dbs directory, rename files and modify the contents to fit your database. 3. Set Environment variable SAPDATA_HOME (may be to your oracle home) 4. Create directories saparch, sapbackup, sapcheck a...

Hi Budha, I think you are now confused too.. Even if you use D31 for the DI, that is not what is called SID. 31 just refers to the instance number.. SID is your SAPSID and/or Database SID which has to be the same across all app servers / CI in a system. If R3P is the SID of the CI, then all app serv...

Buddha, Thanks.. I understand that.. "Since I never have DEV and QAS application servers as standalone, DIs for PRD use numbers. For example, a SID of R31 would be a DI of R3P." Didn't he say "SID of R31 would be a DI of R3P".. That's why I humbly said in my first post that it is a typo.. Every body...

Hi Jo,

I am sorry.. I am still confused.. May be I am learning some thing new here.

Are you saying you have different SIDs for the DI (R31) and CI (R3P)
for the same production environment?..
